Spring Principal Update

Posted Date: 05/15/26 (03:23 PM)

Dolphin Families,

As the school year begins winding to a close, our students continue to show what they know and how much they have grown. Right now, our 3rd through 5th grade students are working through the Smarter Balanced state assessments. These assessments give students an opportunity to demonstrate their learning, and I am proud of students' effort and perseverance.

It is also a fun time of year around Sidney Glen. Many classes are enjoying field trips, outdoor learning, and other spring activities that help students connect their learning to the world beyond the classroom. These experiences are important and it has been wonderful to see students learning, exploring, and having fun together.

This has also been a year of important learning and growth for our teaching team. Our staff has engaged in sustained and focused professional learning around strengthening instruction, sharpening our collaborative work, and increasing student learning. Recently, our teaching team documented shared commitments to each other and to our students around what great teaching and learning should look like at Sidney Glen. This work will help us take another step forward in ensuring that all of our students receive an excellent education.

Alongside academic learning, we continue to focus on character and what it means to live The Dolphin Way. This month’s character trait is integrity. Students are learning about the importance of doing the right thing, being honest, and taking responsibility for their words and actions.

We are also looking forward to celebrating our schoolwide Dolphins Care community service projects at an assembly in June. Throughout the year, students have found ways to care for others and contribute positively to our school and community. I am incredibly proud of how our students have grown not only as learners, but also as kind, responsible, and caring members of our Sidney Glen community.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we finish the year strong.

Regards,
Shawn Cook
